Programme Details

What are the entry requirements?

Prospective candidates will have Maths and English at grade C/4 or above equivalent, and will be required to meet the standard University entry requirements for the programme which for 2017 is 96 – 112 UCAS points (new UCAS tariff).

We understand that individuals may be considering an apprenticeship as a way of returning to education and therefore offer non-standard entry routes where individuals do not meet the standard entry criteria but can bring relevant or prior work experience.  To find out more, please ask if this is relevant to you.

What qualifications will I obtain?

BA (Hons) Management and Leadership (subject to validation)

How will the apprentice be taught?

Through blended learning, including a mixture of face-to-face lectures and discussions, online exercises using the university's virtual learning environment, live online seminars and individual work.

The mode of delivery will be agreed between you and your employer, and will be subject to programme viability. Depending on what is agreed, you will be taught either by day or evening release. In some cases, the programme may be taught over several “block weeks” where you complete a module more intensively, and could include a residential overnight stay.

How will the apprenticeship be assessed?

Assessment methods will be agreed between the university and your employer, and are likely to include an appropriate mix of:

  • assignments
  • reports
  • practical exercises
  • projects
  • 360-degree feedback or equivalent mechanisms

You will also create a portfolio of evidence which will demonstrate how learning has been applied, including your achievements and capabilities. This should demonstrate the skills, knowledge and behaviours you have acquired against the apprenticeship standard, and supports the attainment of Chartered Manager status.

There will be regular reviews (at least quarterly) between your employer and the university with a formal annual assessment of progress. Towards the end of the programme, you will undertake a synoptic work-based project, which will bring together elements of your learning from different parts of the apprenticeship programme and show your accumulated knowledge and understanding of management and its application in your organisation.

The End Point Assessment is carried out externally by the CMI by a robust panel interview, which will include a presentation on the synoptic work based project, review of portfolio evidence, and a question and answer session. This combination will fully test that you meet all the requirements of the Chartered Manager apprenticeship standard.

Where will the training be delivered?

A mix of on campus training days and workplace learning, which may take place on the businesses premises where you are based. Your employer will be asked to provide training to enable you to perform your work duties.
