How will the apprenticeship be assessed?

There are three key stages to the delivery of the apprenticeship:

  • On programme
  • Gateway
  • End Point Assessment

On Programme

This is the substantive part of the apprenticeship and includes both on-the job and off-the-job training and assessment. Throughout this stage, you will develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours outlined in the Apprenticeship Standard in a blended delivery approach of face to face

teaching, work based learning, online, and self-directed study.

Each unit will be assessed and judged to be competent or referred for additional work and/or evidence by your assessor. A number of units will also undergo a verification process and all units must be passed to gain the full apprenticeship.

Gateway

The Gateway is the opportunity for the university and your employer to sit down and agree whether or not you are ready to take your End Point Assessment.

End Point Assessment (EPA)

The EPA is made up of five components:

  • Knowledge test using scenarios and questions
  • Structured competency-based interview
  • Assessment of portfolio of evidence
  • Assessment of and presentation on work-based project
  • Professional discussion relating to CPD activity

Where will the training be delivered?

The initial induction and teaching of units will take place at one of the University of Cumbria’s campuses, the work-based elements of the programme will be with your employer.

What are the opportunities for progression?

Apprentices, with support and opportunities in the workplace, can progress onto a range of management and other professional qualifications at level 6 and above, including:

  • Degree Apprenticeship
  • Degrees or Masters in Management & Leadership, Business, and Business Management
  • Further employment opportunities within current or alternative job roles

What are the entry requirements?

Equivalent to, or exceeding:

Level 2 in English and Mathematics. This may be met through the achievement of Level 2 Functional Skills, equivalent GCSEs, O Levels, A Levels or AS Levels, or an initial assessment which demonstrates the required ability.

Candidates are likely to be in a new job role, or an existing role where the individual needs significant new knowledge and skills development in middle management. Candidates will come from a diverse range of backgrounds and will have a range of experience, achievements and, in some cases, prior qualifications and awards which may count towards achievement of an apprenticeship. Examples include:

QCF Awards, Certificates or Diplomas, a (14 - 19) Foundation or Higher Diploma which have underpinning management and leadership themes, GCSEs or A Levels, an advanced apprenticeship.
