Biography

Fiona joined the Primary Mathematics Team in the University's Institute of Education, having spent the earlier part of her career teaching in primary schools, where she specialised in supporting student teachers on placement. Currently Fiona teaches primary mathematics on both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, as well as having a cohort leader role.

Qualifications and memberships

BA(Hons), PGCE in Primary Education, PGC in Academic Practice, Fellow of the HEA. MA (Education). Member of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics and the Mathematics Association.

Academic and research interests

Fiona's key area of interest is primary mathematics education, with a particular focus on mathematical problem solving and the use of concrete resources, models and representations (including the use of virtual resources) to develop conceptual understanding.
