For those looking for a challenge check out the Lakeland Trails 100k Ultra, an iconic trail run that kicks off at midnight in Ambleside. There are lots of different levels of the run available, so those of varying abilities can get involved and be a part of this memorable experience.
Be sure to check out Hayes Garden World too, which is open year-round and has different areas to discover, from its crystal palace with tropical plants to the colourful pets and aquatic centre.
Foodies will love the array of food and drink events that take place throughout the year, with Taste Cumbria and county food festivals and markets happening all across the Lake District. Plus, there are plenty of farmer's markets every weekend, which are renowned for being some of the best in the country. Pick up fresh, locally sourced produce, or treat yourself to some homemade cake and a hot chocolate as you spend sleepy Saturday mornings strolling around.
Finally, Ambleside celebrates Christmas in style with the annual Christmas Lights and Firework display. Allowing locals and visitors to really get into the spirit of the festive season, this fair includes Christmas markets, street performers, live music, a lantern procession, and finishes off with a stunning firework display.
All year long, Ambleside and the Lake District host a range of traditional festivals and cultural shows, as well as sporting events and challenges.
