Who is it for?
This course is suitable for project managers, site managers and supervisors, business owners and clients who are involved in construction projects.
Learning objectives
At the end of this course participants will be able to:
- Understand the legal background to safe site management and have an awareness of regulations
- Apply safety considerations in different operational scenarios
- Understand safe set-up on site and processes of risk assessment
- Understand accident reporting and reporting requirements under the RIDDOR regulations
- Understand the importance of maintaining and communicating a positive health and safety culture within the workplace
Assessment format
Participants will complete an assessment paper at the end of each day alongside core exercises and a case study. The assessment paper consists of 25 questions – 20 multiple choice and 5 short written questions and answers. There will be five safety critical questions on each paper that must be correctly answered. There is also a practical exercise that is carried out during the course and completed on the final day.

Conditions
Please note the specific terms applying to this course:
- Candidates are required to present a valid form of photographic ID on the first day of the course, such as a copy of their passport or driving licence, together with their National Insurance number and CITB Registration number (if known)
- To gain the Site Safety Plus certificate candidates must:
- attend the full 37.5 hours of training. If any candidate does not attend the full course, they will need to enrol and take the course again.
- pass the exam and take part in the course exercises.
- Should any candidate need to re-sit the test, they must do this within 90 days of the original course date at an additional charge, or enrol and take the full course again.
- Certification for this course is valid for 5 years. To remain certified in this area, candidates will need to take a refresher course before the expiry date on their certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.
Inclusions and exclusions
- Individual learning packs including presentations, workbook and the book Construction site safety - The comprehensive guide (GE700/19) will be issued to you in hard copy.
- Upon successful completion of the course assessment, a CITB National Construction College certificate will be sent to you in hard copy after the course.
- Meals and refreshments are not included at in person courses. You will be able to bring your own lunch or buy food on or near the training premises.

If you have not conducted business with the University of Cumbria before, please be aware that both of us may have administrative procedures required to set up our respective customer/supplier accounts and the time taken to complete these may impact on the availability of places on your preferred course.
Payment, cancellation and changes
- Bookings, including purchase orders, to be received at least four weeks ahead of course start date.
- At our discretion, late bookings may be accepted: please check with us before sending a purchase order.
- Invoices will be issued four weeks before the course once delivery is confirmed (or immediately on receipt of an accepted late booking) and will be due for payment immediately. Full payment should be received by us prior to the course commencing.
- In the event that a booked delegate is unable to attend, substitutions may be made at no cost. UoC must be notified of the substituted names prior to the course commencing. No substitutions will be accepted once the course is in progress.
- In the event of a substitute not being provided for a cancelled candidate place, the unfilled place will be charged for.
- Any no-shows during the course will be charged for.
- For all cancellations and substitutions, UoC must be notified in writing via email to project.academy@cumbria.ac.uk.
