The Careers & Employability Service can help!
 name

Have you always dreamed of starting a business?

Are you ready to grow or develop an existing side-hustle?

At the Careers & Employability Service we can now help you to flourish as an entrepreneur.

We’ve just appointed a new Student Enterprise Adviser who can support you from your initial idea to getting your business up-and-running and making those first essential sales.

You can now book sessions with Cumbrian entrepreneur Paul Teague, who self-publishes and sells his books in well over 100 countries from the comfort of his kitchen table.

Who can use our services?

  • All full and part-time undergraduate and postgraduate students registered and currently studying at the University of Cumbria and alumni within three years of graduation, including School Direct and Degree Apprenticeship programmes, have full access to services with a number of exceptions (below).
  • Prospective and current students and recent alumni of franchised programmes, and those delivered by partners, are encouraged to seek advice and support from their college, but can access limited services including resources on My.Cumbria and opportunities and events on My Career Enriched
  • Students and graduates of other universities are encouraged to seek advice and support from their university or college but can access limited services including resources on My.Cumbria and opportunities and events on My Career Enriched.
  • We do not offer a guidance service to individual members of staff.

If you fall outside of these groups or are not sure of your entitlement to use the service please email careers@cumbria.ac.uk. We will be happy to signpost you to appropriate support and advice services where possible.

Paul writes psychological thrillers, science fiction and non-fiction books, with over 40 titles to his name.

Paul says, ‘I have spent more than five years delivering business support for Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, so I’m also clued up on how to access free funding and support. My own specialisms are in digital marketing, social media, website creation, podcasting, digital product creation and, of course, self-publishing. My local business links can put University of Cumbria entrepreneurs in touch with the right person, whatever help it is that they need with their enterprise.’

If you’ve ever thought about starting up your own business, even as a side-hustle or as a way of making extra money from a hobby or skill, it’s now easy to take the next step into entrepreneurship by booking an appointment via My Career Enriched.

And what if you’ve already set up and a business and you’re seeking support, guidance, advice or funding?

You can still access the service via My Career Enriched, just select the Starting a business option and select a time and location that’s convenient for you.

So, if you’ve ever wondered if you have what it takes to be an entrepreneur, or you have a great idea that you’d like to sound out, book an appointment via My Career Enriched.

This doesn’t have to be a full-time option and Paul is happy to provide support to businesses at any stage, whether you just have the germ on an idea, or if you’re considering a side hustle or part-time business.

Could the next unicorn start-up be waiting among alumni at the University of Cumbria?
