You’ve graduated... people keep saying words like ‘alumnus’ and ‘alumni’ and you’ve heard there is some mysterious association you have to join? What does it all mean?
We’ve put together a handy blog post that goes back to basics to explain who we are and what we do...
The word ‘alumni’ means graduates, it is plural,
‘Alumnus’ is the singular
Some universities use separate words for a group of female graduates (alumnae) or for a singular female graduate (alumna). But we like to keep it simple and inclusive with the words ‘alumni’ and ‘alumnus’ for everybody.
Our motto and our main aim is...
Keeping you connected to Cumbria and each other.
To put it simply the Alumni Association exists so that we can stay in touch with you.
Our graduates are a huge asset and with your time and talent you can help enrich our university community and boost the graduate outcomes of future students.
How do I join the Alumni Association?
You are automatically a member as soon as you graduate. We write to all our graduates in graduation week. There is no need to sign up and there and no joining fees.
If you graduated some time ago, haven't heard from us in a while or your contact details have changed, you can update your details here.
Who is in the Alumni Association?
There are more than 70,000 graduates in the University of Cumbria Alumni Association. We have graduates in all (or likely most) countries in the world. Our graduates range from those who attended our legacy institutions: St Martin’s College, Cumbria Institute of the Arts and Charlotte Mason College to those who graduated just last year. Anybody who completes a course of study with us, whether online or on campus, through a partner or directly with the university, whether undergraduate or postgraduate, short course or apprenticeship each graduate is valued just the same.
