ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
The Wigan Institute of Education is unique in the Wigan area in providing teacher-training across all phases and sectors, from primary through to secondary and post-16, with the opportunity for placements at special schools with a SEND focus. Our mission is to nurture and train teachers for our local communities, which also include schools in Merseyside, Greater Manchester and Cheshire. We provide a bespoke experience for our trainees where individual learning needs and specialisms are expertly met by our highly skilled school mentors.
On our school-based PGCE, you are treated as a member of staff from the very start, and our blended learning programme gives you the opportunity to work alongside experts, gaining knowledge, experience and skills progressively throughout the course. Placements in two schools across the alliance will give you contrasting experiences of school life, where classroom learning is consolidated by theory and evidence - based research in our on-site training centres.
WHY STUDY WITH US?
We provide a comprehensive and personalised training experience which will enable you to become a passionate and creative classroom practitioner. Our innovative approach is designed to guide and support you as you develop your own teacher identity, preparing you to inspire the next generation of young minds. The school-based learning is facilitated by our own subject experts and lead trainers, who provide varied and engaging tutor sessions, seminars and site visits.
WHO WILL YOU INSPIRE?
The Wigan Institute of Education is passionate about training teachers who can meet the needs of the young people in our schools and in our region. We see education as a moral enterprise which widens horizons and makes a tangible difference to our pupils’ life chances. By choosing to train with us, you will not only become a highly skilled classroom teacher and reflective practitioner, but you will also be making a positive contribution to the schools which serve our local communities.
