30 years on the hill
In 2014 we celebrated 50 years since the opening of St. Martin's College with a large reunion event for the first students and staff. As part of the reunion events we gathered together photos, archive materials and memories for a display. We were lucky enough to be given some original film footage from the college.
'30 years on the hill' was produced in 1994 and was put together by staff at St. Martin's College to celebrate 30 years of the college, which opened in 1964.
Interviews were carried out with principal Ian Edynbry, who was principal from 1989 to 1997, Robert Clayton who was principal from 1976 to 1989, and Hugh Pollard the first principal from 1964 to 1976.
The video also shows archive footage from the original 8mm film taken by staff members at the time and photographs. The film is quite grainy and of poor quality as it has been converted from 8mm to VHS, then to DVD and now to YouTube, but we believe this just adds to the charm.
30 years on the hill was very kindly gifted to the University of Cumbria by Dr John Chippendale.
