Briefly describe your role and responsibilities

I currently teach Year 3 and I lead PSHE.  I plan and deliver lessons to my class, I deploy my teaching assistant effectively in order to support children.

My PSHE I deliver staff training, monitor lessons and impact. I also plan all assemblies.

Briefly describe your career progression from graduation to where you are now

I started part-time in a small church school, I was offered a full-time permanent position after the first half term (Autumn 1). During my NQT year I taught year 5. During my RQT year I continued teaching Year 5 and began leading Art and DT.   In my third year I moved to Year 3 to gain LKS2 experience, continued leading art and DT but was also the lead for able, gifted and talented provision.  For my fourth year I moved to Year 1 as I wanted KS1 experience and by this point was leading art and DT, able, gifted, talented along with leading pupil premium.

I then chose to move on to a new school to broaden my horizons. I started teaching at a 2 form entry school, in Year 3. I am still teaching Year 3 and leading PSHE.

What is the most satisfying aspect of your job?

Helping all children realise their potential. I'm passionate about ensuring all children can access education and see the value in school. I love building a rapport with children who are disinterested in school and helping motivate them.

What are your ambitions, now and in the future?

I intend to move into middle leadership and I would also like to become SENco.

Looking back, what advice would you give yourself when you just graduated?

Take tutors seriously when they say only apply for jobs that are right for you. Working in a school that is not right for you can be damaging to your confidence and wellbeing.

What top tips would you give to new alumni who are wishing to pursue a similar career to you?

Always asks for help when you need it.  Work hard and never let anyone chase you for work.

Do you have any support messages for the class of 2020, just embarking on their careers during the Covid-19 pandemic?

It's going to be tough but remember why you started!
