We are delighted to announce that the Institute of Health at UoC is holding three public seminars over the next few months. These will be hybrid events, with talks being delivered at:
- Lancaster campus, Sentamu Lecture Theatre, Thursday 6th February 2025.
- Ambleside campus, LDP Lecture Theatre, Thursday 3rd April 2025.
- Fusehill Street campus, Carlisle, Learning Gateway Lecture Theatre, Thursday 5th June 2025.
Each event will begin at 1700, with refreshments provided. Key talks will begin at 1730 and will be followed by social/networking opportunities. These are free-of-charge public seminars, open to interested parties within the university and without. Early registration (via EventBrite, see below) is encouraged for those hoping to attend in person, given prospective limitations on seating, although there are no restrictions regarding numbers that can register to attend online.
We are particularly excited to announce that first of these seminars, taking place at the Lancaster campus on February 5th, will feature Dr Veenu Gupta, Assistant Professor in Lived Experience Research at Durham University, talking on Exploring the Personal and Professional Identities and Support Needs of Those In Lived Experience Roles.
Dr Gupta has lived experience of psychosis and has worked as an expert by experience for a number of clinical psychology programmes and the National Clinical Audit of Psychosis. Through these experiences she realised lived experience roles were complex and required navigating both personal and professional experiences, but which had a positive effect on her wellbeing, identity and recovery. As a consequence of this insight Veenu focused her PhD at University of Liverpool on understanding the impact of lived experience roles on the identity of those that perform them, identifying their support needs and how to personalise supervision for them. Veenu currently supports design of clinical trials for those with psychosis on the PUMA platform development trial, and the Metformin and Psychosis weight trial. Veenu continues to support lived experience work in a number of contexts across qualitative and quantitative research. Veenu uses insight from her PhD to provide lived experience researcher supervision to others. Veenu will discuss three recent publications from her PhD to identify lived experience researcher and provider's identity, support needs and how to navigate and negotiate issues they experience in their roles.
