London Lecture & Seminar Series

The London campus is hosting a series of public lectures and seminars From December 2023 to June 2024. The lectures and seminars are open to all, with the aim of offering a new experience to our existing students, the opportunity to connect with our alumni and local communities and businesses and promoting the offer available at our London campus. In addition, the public lectures will be streamed online for a wider audience.

Public Lectures are formal lectures that are held both in person and online. The lecture and question period usually last for one hour, followed by a networking reception.

Seminars, held in person, are opportunities for attendees to engage with a leading expert in the field. These are interactive sessions with opportunities for discussion lasting for approximately two hours. Please note that there are no catering services on campus for the seminars and attendees are invited to bring their own provisions.

A message from the Vice Chancellor

Welcome to the public lecture and seminar series at the University of Cumbria’s London campus. Our name might be that of Cumbria’s university, but our presence in London stretches back five decades.  We initially began as part of an initiative to give students from the North-West of England the opportunity to undertake teaching placements in East London.  Since then, we have gone on to offer our own London-based qualifications in education and in business, putting us at the heart of the community, with over 70% of primary schools in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets having a Cumbria-trained teacher on their staff.

As part of our mission to inspire our communities to thrive, I am delighted to introduce this year’s public lecture and seminar series.  These sessions truly reflect the range of provision our university offers – from education, to psychology, literature, engineering, and health.  The public lectures are formal sessions, held in-person and online, with opportunities to network at a reception afterwards for those attending in-person.  The seminars are opportunities to discuss a topic in depth in an informal setting.  All of our colleagues who will be giving these events are recognized experts in these areas.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you most cordially to our London campus, to encourage you to attend and participate in our events, and to find out more about our university and our history in East London.
