Research Interest Groups

Allied Health Professions Research Interest Group (AHP-RIG)

The AHP-RIG launched at the beginning of 2025 with the aim of bringing together like-minded researchers at University of Cumbria and in the North West and North East regional NHS, with any levels of research experience, and with a view to expanding research networks and opportunities for all. The group’s activities involve AHP Research Forums, which are online workshop/networking events each augmented by a short presentation and Q&A around a pertinent topic, delivered by an experienced Institute of Health researcher. They also include Open Research Surgeries, taking place about once per fortnight, available (again) to both university and regional NHS staff. In these, one of our senior researchers will be available to provide research advice and support to anyone who needs it.

If you have any queries about the AHP Research Forums, please contact Sarah Smith at University of Cumbria, or Dawn Lamb at NCIC, for further information. If you have any queries about the Research Surgeries, or the wider AHP-RIG itself, then please contact Dr Paul K. Miller or Dr Ross Armstrong at University of Cumbria.

Interpersonal Violence Special Interest Group

This special interest group has a focus on exploring interpersonal violence, including but not limited to an exploration of the impact on victims, responding to victims in a trauma informed way, risk factor for perpetration, and the impact of violence on families and children.  Academics within this group approach this from an inclusive and gender responsive way. They have focused on domestic and sexual violence, exploring victimisation on victims of any gender, effects on child victims and children exposed to family violence, and the physical and mental health outcomes associated with these experiences. There are a range of events (e.g., IPV seminars) and publications available for those who are interested to get access to.
