Community engagement
AARG is working closely with the community to disseminate knowledge, offer advice and promote the work we do for the older community. As part of that work, AARG has linked with local community groups and delivered lectures on fall prevention and balance training. In addition, we are very glad to have signed a memorandum of understanding with AgeUK Lancashire, which confirms the very good relationship we have developed.
Examples of community engagement work include:
- Talks on balance and physical activity to various University of Third Age groups
- 'Balance in later life' at the Continuing Learning Group, Lancaster University, Lancaster
- 'Balance and exercise' at the Lancaster and Morecambe University of Third Age, Lancaster
Furthermore, AARG’s work has been of interest to the Media, with appearances on BBC Cumbria (interview on the successful Dowager Eleanor Peel Trust grant application), ITV Border (interview on the published study on Scottish country dancing improving functional ability) and several newspapers.
