Tell us a little about yourself.
I am Norwegian, and I have had residency in the UK since 2014. I started working at the University of Cumbria in 2023. Before that, I have worked at Middlesbrough College, Teesside University and University Centre Weston.
Ever since watching “Dead Poets Society” as a youngster, I knew I wanted to be a professor at a British University as my end goal.
Let us know more about your industry/practice background.
I did my first year of College at Art Fundamentals, then I went to Bournemouth College in 1996, and did a degree in Hair and Beauty. Sadly, my back wasn’t up to the job in the long run, and so I went back to College and did a degree in Costume Design for Stage and Screen. After that I went to ESMOD Oslo, and did Fashion Design.
Unfortunately, I ran into health problems, and I started out modding games for fun from home. After a while, I started freelancing and selling Game Mods, doing Web design, and coding from home. In 2012 I decided to get a BA (Hons) in Game Design, as I was already working as a Freelancer. This led to a Masters in Game Production.
After that, I was ready to go into teaching, and here I am!
What research area do you specialise in?
My research revolves around inclusivity and representation in Games, e.g. Disability, Neurodiversity etc.
What modules do you teach and what is your favourite part of these?
I teach the Concept Art and Industry modules, as well as the Group Projects and Final Year Project (FYP) and Dissertation. The FYP is my favourite, as it’s where we get to see the results of all the hard work come together.
