Meet Ben as he tells us about how he found his course through Clearing in 2022, what the Clearing experience was like, and what he enjoys most about studying at the University of Cumbria.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR CLEARING EXPERIENCE
I applied to study International Business Management in August 2022. I got in touch straight after A-Level Results Day with the hope of beginning my studies in the September.
I didn’t have much idea of how Clearing worked, and I wasn’t especially aware of it before I started, but I was able to find all the information I needed online quite easily.
HOW WAS YOUR CLEARING EXPERIENCE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CUMBRIA?
I applied via phone and after speaking to an advisor, I had an offer within an hour. It was a very easy process to go through overall, but I think it helped that I already knew what course I wanted to do.
WOULD YOU RECOMMEND APPLYING THROUGH CLEARING TO OTHER STUDENTS?
I had a great experience in Clearing. My place was confirmed and wrapped up within 48 hours.
DO YOU HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR STUDENTS APPLYING TO UNIVERSITY THROUGH CLEARING?
Have a course in mind before you go into it – it makes the experience a lot easier. I was also able to attend an open day the day after I had the Clearing phone call. It was a good experience – everyone was very friendly and receptive, and I found out everything I wanted to know.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT STUDYING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CUMBRIA?
My course has smaller class sizes, which makes one-to-one engagement with lecturers far more commonplace. As a result, I feel like I learn a lot more a lot faster compared to universities where you have classes with hundreds of students.
I also enjoy how close-knit everything is, and since the campus is quite compact, you see people you know all over. It’s allowed me to socialise very easily. Living on campus has definitely aided in this, too.
HOW IS UNIVERSITY LIFE BEYOND YOUR STUDIES?
I do live on campus and as such, I have no commute apart from a 2-minute walk to the lecture buildings! I’ve made a lot of good friends at university, both on and outside of my course. I’d recommend Cumbria to anyone who is thinking about applying through Clearing.
