Michael is from Consett, County Durham. Having worked in retail for three years, he chose to study for a degree as he had always wanted to join the police force.
He says, “The University of Cumbria is well respected for its policing qualifications, in addition Cumbria is an amazing part of the Country. The course was clear in its aim, which was to get students into the Police Service or the Criminal Justice Sector. It has years of experience in terms of the lecturers, many of which hold, or have held roles within the Police Service.

“I liked the work-based part of the course where students had to undertake the role of a Special Constable, it forms part of your academic assessment and gave me a great insight into the role of a Police Constable.
“University gave me the knowledge and confidence to pursue my career as a Police Constable, a role which I have held with Cumbria Constabulary for over two years.
Michael says, “I think I’m most proud of pushing myself to study at a university level. I didn’t ever think I would go to university, however I really enjoyed it, and I achieved my overall goal at the end of it.”
