PGCE Non-QTS Online
"I did this course as part of my SCITT training. I felt it would provide additional academic background to my very practical course. If you do choose to do this course, best of luck with it. I found it brilliant. "
I chose to do my PGCE online at the University of Cumbria as it was offered as part of my SCITT training course and I felt it would provide an additional sort of academic background to teaching since I was getting a very practical course via the SCITT.
Because it was online I could dip in as and when I wanted and so when there were gaps during the school day I could go online but a lot of the work took place in the evenings and it was just easy to access the materials.
The university staff were absolutely brilliant. And they helped me a great deal to make sure that I was on the right path.
The university staff were absolutely brilliant. And they helped me a great deal to make sure that I was on the right path. And also the overall use of webinars during the course was great because it gave a chance for me to speak to both the teaching staff but also to meet my other colleagues on the course, the other students who are doing the course and that was really useful to have that sort of discussion take place.
The advice I would give is to be prepared. It is quite in-depth, you do have to work a lot but it's tremendously worthwhile because it does provide the degree of academic rigour but I thought you need to understand teaching and what it's based on.
If you do choose to do this course, best of luck with it. I found it brilliant.
