1. Why did you choose the University of Cumbria?

I am originally from Northern Ireland and I chose to come to the University of Cumbria in Lancaster because it had a big enough city vibe going on that it felt different and it was a change from my wee (small) hometown but the campus itself was small and homely, so I knew I'd be comfortable there.

From my very first open day back in 2017, I knew the tutors would get to know me personally and I would be able to get to know them and I've never been just another face in the crowd. Thankfully, the tutors have genuinely held up to that expectation over the last three years.

2. What did you love the most about your course?

One of the things that I've loved about Teaching and Learning is that they're taught in small groups and very rarely have we been taught in a large lecture hall. We've nearly always been taught in seminars with small groups of students and the tutor. It's felt more personal and I've been able to relate my learning in placement more because I've had that almost one-to-one experience with the tutor, which has really helped me get through the last three years.

3. What top tips would you give to people looking to do the same course as you?

• Keep your options open. The tutors will help you learn how to work with children in different ways. You could work in the early years like me, you could go into being a primary school teacher or work in a secondary school. Or you could work in a youth organization and they are just as, if not more, rewarding.

• Use your tutor's expertise. They are experts in their field and they will always try and help you whatever your situation is.

4. What are your plans after graduation?

After I graduate I am planning on completing a PGCE that specializes in the Early Years and my tutors have really helped me see that that is where my future lies.
