Biography
I have been working in higher education for nearly 25 years, having moved from the private sector where I worked as an industrial and commercial photographer.
Whilst out on location, I became more-and-more aware of computers appearing in offices and on shop-floors. I decided that I should really learn more about these devices, and stumbled across the Open University when trying to find a suitable-level introduction to computing. This initial ‘Living with Technology’ course was very engaging and a suitable challenge. One course led to another, and before I knew it I was on my way to a degree. My initial OU experience has stuck with me, and is something that I often reference when considering the use of our learning technologies. It was fascinating to have the student-experience of studying, collaborating and submitting assignments purely online.
I completed my PgC LTHE at UoC - a great introduction and help when considering pedagogical approaches, opportunities and benefits of using technology for learning, teaching and assessment; it has also helped when planning and delivering workshops and CPD sessions to support colleagues with using technology to support LTA.
I am the Learning Technology Manager within CAPE. In this role I am system owner for many of our core Learning Technology systems, such Blackboard and PebblePad. Myself and the team support and develop our systems, and help course teams to make the most of the tools available, and to develop their – and their students – digital capabilities to ensure an effective and enjoyable student experience. Working closely with academic colleagues, we can help ensure that appropriate technology is used to enable and enhance learning, teaching and assessment.
