Biography
I qualified from Plymouth University as an occupational therapist in 2016 and have practiced in a range of areas. This has included acute in-patient settings (ITU, surgical and general health), rehabilitation hospitals and community teams, both NHS and local authority. My main area of clinical expertise is in discharge planning, home assessment and community rehabilitation or admission prevention. These roles have spanned Torbay, Plymouth, Wiltshire, Somerset and the Isle of Man. My focus is on person-centred care, safe residence at home and holistic wellbeing.
I completed my master’s degree in research in Wellbeing at the University of Sussex. Within this, my specific empirical research explored the impact of mountaineering and hill running for personal wellbeing and mental health.
Since then, I have recently finished my PhD at the University of Worcester. My PhD explores the NHS model of social prescribing, and the perceptions, experiences and engagement of healthcare practitioners, social prescribing link workers, and service users. I am interested in non-pharmacological interventions for addressing health issues, and the utilisation of community, exercise, socialisation, and nature for holistic health and wellbeing.
