Biography
Hi, I’m Firoz Jethwa, and I teach accounting and finance at the University of Cumbria. Before stepping into academia, I worked in banking and accounting, gaining hands-on experience with the financial world (and discovering that budgets are a lot more exciting than they sound!).
In my teaching, I aim to make finance relatable and engaging. From games that simplify tricky theories to projects where students design their own cryptocurrency, I try to bring creativity into the classroom. I also run a Finance Forum, a platform for students to connect with industry professionals and dive into real-world financial insights.
My research interests span across borders. I’m intrigued by how businesses raise money in Kenya, where informal networks and community-based funding often overshadow traditional finance. I’m also passionate about Islamic finance and how it shapes financial systems in the Middle East, offering ethical and culturally aligned solutions.
Outside of teaching and research, I’m always up for a good conversation about finance—or anything else, really. Let’s connect and share ideas!
