Biography

John was a police officer for 20 years before joining the University. He was a response officer for 15 years and gained experience of the wide range of policing incidents that are dealt with by uniformed officers. In addition, he served as a Police Support Unit (PSU or ‘riot unit’) and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) officer.  

John spent the last 5 years of his police career in headquarter training. Initially he was involved in the creation and delivery of force wide training on issues concerning the police’s relationships with a variety of criminal justice partners, especially the Crown Prosecution Service. He then moved to recruit training and was involved in the development and delivery of degree level entry programmes under the PEQF mandate.  

Qualifications and memberships

During his police service John obtained a BSc in Policing and an MSc in Legal and Criminological Psychology. He also gained a PGCE and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Institute.
