Biography
I qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1999 and have more than 20 years experience working clinically with adults and older people wthinin a variety of different fields including, general medicine and surgery, elderly medicine, lower limb amputee rehabilitation, neurology and neurosurgery, oncology and palliative care, emergency medicine, orthopaedics (including trauma and elective surgery), falls management and dementia care. I have experience in both acute and rehabilitation settings and I have a strong skill base in occupational therapy assessment, treatment, and care planning for individuals with complex functional problems. I have also worked as an occupational therapy medico-legal expert witness.
I have always had a keen interest in student and staff education in my role as a practice educator, and delivering team moving and handling and equipment training within my NHS work. In 2022 I joined the University of Cumbria as an Occupational therapy lecturer, and have since completed my post graduate certificate in higher education and registered as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. My role involves; facilitation of teaching and learning across the BSc and MSc pre-registration Occupational Therapy programmes, practice placement team responsibilities (Carlisle link), year tutor - Level 6, personal academic tutor, and moving and handling training.
