Biography
Margaret has a decorated career working within the early years sector. Throughout her career, she has worked as a teacher and lecturer in early years, whilst also undertaking study as part of her professional development. Her initial study for QTS was at Edge Hill University, where she trained as a primary school teacher. Margaret then became head of the early years at her first school, working in partnership with parents and carers.
Margaret’s other school appointments include working as a deputy head of a three-form primary school and two appointments as head of the Foundation Stage. These appointments have given her a wealth of experience and expertise within the EYFS and Key Stage 1. Margaret has also been a primary school governor for several years responsible for the EYFS. She regularly spends time in school, engaged in the curriculum for the children, in both the indoor and outdoor learning environments. She is very involved with the education of children in the early years and serves as a mentor for early career teachers in nursery settings.
Margaret’s experience in Higher Education began after gaining substantial teaching experience. Whilst continuing her professional development studying at Liverpool University on a full-time course in nursery education, she was asked to lecture at Liverpool Hope University on the early years programme. After three years, she then returned to school teaching. She has taught the early years curriculum and undertaken link tutoring at Sunderland and Warwick Universities, focusing on mathematics. Her other teaching experiences include working for seven years in Further Education at Lancaster and Morecambe College, teaching nursery support staff. At the University of Cumbria, she has been a lecturer on several degree programmes for the early years. During this time, she gained a MA in Education from Lancaster University.
