Biography

I joined the University of Cumbria in 2021 after working at the University of Huddersfield managing the BA (hons) degree in Events Management. I have also taught at the University of Leeds, Manchester Metropolitan University and Sheffield.  I have been working, teaching and facilitating training in the events industry for over 25 years: I specialise in the risk management of outdoor festivals and community arts projects, and also work as a stage manager for live music and performance events.

I have a keen interest in cognitive psychology which helps me to assess the behaviour of event attendees and mitigate potential risks. I have attended many training courses in Health and Safety, Risk Management, Counter Terrorism and I am a qualified first aid trainer. I studied my undergraduate degree at Bretton Hall University College of Performing Arts, my first master’s degree in education at the University of Huddersfield and my second master’s degree in Cognitive Psychology.

I am based at Ambleside, where I teach levels 4 to 6 of the Chartered Managers Degree Apprenticeship in the Visitor Economy. I am also programme co-ordinator I manage the course administration and personal tutoring.
