Biography
Dr. Raphael Peter Galleh (Preferred Name: Galleh)
Microbiologist | Academic | Researcher | Global Engagement Advocate
I am an experienced microbiologist with a solid foundation in teaching, research, and international engagement. I hold a PhD in Microbiology from the University of Sheffield (UK), an MSc in Pharmaceutical Microbiology from ABU Zaria (Nigeria), and a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology from Nasarawa State University (NSUK), Nigeria. My research primarily focuses on host-pathogen interactions with an emphasis on the development of novel antimicrobial therapies.
My technical expertise spans a range of laboratory techniques, including tissue culture, biofilm assays, recombinant protein production and purification, flow cytometry, PCR/qPCR, ELISA, Western blotting, fluorescence microscopy, and molecular docking, MIC/MBC assays, adhesion/invasion assays, and working with both aerobic and anaerobic organisms data analysis.
Prior to joining the University of Cumbria, I served as a Biomedical Science Lecturer at Aston University, Birmingham, where I delivered core microbiology courses, supervised students, acted as a personal tutor, and contributed to curriculum development. I have also held academic positions at the University of Sheffield as a Graduate Teaching/Research Assistant and at Nasarawa State University Keffi, Nigeria, as a Lecturer in Microbiology. My professional journey also includes experience as a Scientific Officer at a Biotechnology Research Centre and clinical microbiology experience as a Medical Laboratory Assistant at the Nigerian Defence Academy.
Beyond my academic and research roles, I am passionate about science communication and global engagement. I have collaborated with international student recruitment teams at both Sheffield and Aston, fostering global partnerships.
I am eager to contribute to the continued success of the University of Cumbria through collaboration, student mentoring, and advancing academic excellence.
