Shane Byrne

Biography

My background before coming to work at the University of Cumbria was in surgery, where I worked for the best part of 15 years.

I have worked across colorectal, urology and acute care in multiple roles within healthcare.

While I was with University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust, I was actively part of some of the steering groups for the Trust. These included documentation steering team, and the HCA Care Certificate program. I was also an RCN Learning Representative and helped with delivering NMC revalidation workshops for the Trust. In the year before I started with UoC I was Practice Educator for Corporate Nursing as part of the clinical onboarding team. In this role I delivered clinical skills teaching for the international Nurse recruits in line with the NMC Test of Competence, enabling them to obtain their NMC pin and work as a registered practitioner in the UK.
