Module - Advancing Mental Health Across the Health Care Spectrum (Advanced Level)

The aim of this module is to develop further understanding of the nature and impact of mental illness across the healthcare spectrum.

Having completed this module you may wish to use it towards a postgraduate programme such as the MSc Practice Development or MSc Paramedic: Practice Development.

By the end of this module you will be able to: 

  • Critically discuss theories of mental health across the lifespan and contemporary approaches to supporting individuals in crisis.
  • Critically review the management and organisational issues related to provision of services related to mental health within a range of work based settings.
  • Model appropriate multi-professional, evidence-based inclusive practice using a critically reflective approach to enable personal and professional development.
  • Critically analyse how learning from this module has transformed your understanding of your practice.

Advancing Mental Health Across the Health Care Spectrum (Advanced Level) cover image

Life stages and transitions; definitions of mental health; common and serious mental health problems across the age continuum; anxiety states; depression; alcohol/drug abuse; bereavement; suicide; gender and ethnicity; assessment skills; risk assessment; approaches to care' privacy and dignity; service user/carer involvement; mental health policy and guidance; multi-disciplinary support and process of referral.

 

 

How you will learn

Formative assessment provides an opportunity for you to receive feedback on work as part of your learning for the module. Formative work does not have marks awarded that contribute to the final module mark.

The formative assessment is four exercises exploring the following: contemporary interventions in mental health practice; management and organisational approaches to mental health: co-production strategies in service development for mental health; experience based design for mental health and professional development.

 

How you will be assessed 

The summative assessment is a written assignment of 3,500 words which provides the opportunity for you to demonstrate that you have met the learning outcomes for the module.

Evidence of prior successful study at the underpinning level.

Prior to studying this module, you must normally have studied the pre-requisite module at level 6, Advancing Mental Health across the Health Care Spectrum (intermediate Level), or equivalent.
