Clinical supervision is a recognised and valued professional development role which promotes the quality agenda. It is ideal for professionals who wish to gain further knowledge and skills in supporting and leading staff within their work area. This module is designed to develop your knowledge and skills to enable you to take on the role of clinical supervisor.

- Critically review contemporary research that directly informs understanding of and the application of clinical supervision to practice.
- You will need to complete an induction prior to commencement of your first module. We have a comprehensive online induction package to welcome you to both the university and your programme of study.
What you will learn
This module consists of an initial intensive four week formative learning block on the theory and concepts of clinical supervision. That will equip you to undertake the practice elements. On this Module you will learn:
• Undertaking self-reflection of the skills and knowledge required for the role of the clinical supervisor and identifying ways in which to develop
• Models of clinical supervision
• Models of reflection used in clinical supervision
• Knowledge, skills, attitudes related to clinical supervision
• Using a clinical supervision contract
• Action planning
• Professional and ethical issues
• Undertaking clinical supervision group sessions.
• Clinical supervision brief record keeping
How you will learn
To achieve the practice-based elements, you must be willing to take on the role of a clinical supervisor and to recruit a willing participant. You will need to undertake the minimum of two supervision sessions with your volunteer supervisee. This is essential, for you will be required to reflect on the experience that you have gained within your role as a clinical supervisor, and to consider how you plan to develop your knowledge and skills that will aid you in future clinical supervision sessions within one to one sessions and group clinical supervision sessions. You are expected to keep a reflexive clinical supervisor diary.
How you will be assessed
You will be required to write a reflective essay on the theory and practice of clinical supervision.
To be eligible to study this module, you must demonstrate the ability to study at this level and commit to attempting the assessment. You must also be working in an environment that will allow you to use a clinical supervision contract, and clinical supervision model taught in this module.

Tuition fees are set annually and are subject to review each year. The University may therefore raise tuition fees in the second or subsequent years of a course, in line with inflation and/or the maximum permitted by law or government policy. Students will be notified of any changes as soon as possible.
