Course summary
The indicative module content includes negotiation; motivating and influencing others; self motivation and resilience; assertive communication; conflict resolution; self awareness; emotional intelligence; working within your sphere of influence; exploration of concepts and theories of how teams form and develop - empowerment; monitoring of standards, quality and risk; performance management; staff development, appraisal/PDR processes; partnership working.
On successful completion you will be able to:
- Critically discuss knowledge, skills and behaviours required to enable effective management of a contemporary health care workforce.
- Critically evaluate strategies involved in empowering and motivating individuals and teams in health care settings and the barriers - both perceived and real - which may prevent this.
- Critically discuss techniques to manage, promote and enhance individual and team performance and development.
- Critically reflect on the manager's role in relation to monitoring of quality, standards and risk and apply this in the context of your own role and field of practice.
- Undertake a critical reflection of your own management knowledge, skills and behaviours and engage in critical self appraisal and reflection in order to demonstrate how you intend to address individual development needs and enhance your effectiveness.
