Biography

I joined the South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAMB) back in 1994 as a Zoology/Physiology graduate, and worked my way from patient transport through to paramedic.

In 2004 I made the move into Ambulance Education where I delivered the traditional IHCD education model. However this was an exciting time for the development of the profession when partnerships were forged with Higher Education Institutions (HEI) to enable learners to attain internationally recognised qualifications with academic rating.

I worked with St Georges University of London and the University of Portsmouth to develop and deliver our direct entry and in-service HEI programmes. After a period of time acting up as a Senior Education Manager, I took a secondment with the University of Brighton as a lecturer/practitioner, where I spent 6 years building and delivering their Bachelors Programme.

During this time I was also an external examiner for the Paramedic Science Undergraduate programme at the University of West England (UWE).

I was excited about the emergence of the degree apprenticeship and I was keen to become involved with the next innovation for Ambulance Education and I have been seconded to the University of Cumbria since the enrolment of the first SECAMB learners in 2021.
