IT Services develops and supports almost all areas of information technology at the university.

We are led by, and contribute to, corporate, academic and enabling strategies – the most critical being the university IT Strategy. We work collaboratively with stakeholders and partners inside and outside the university to ensure our IT actively enhances academic provision and enables more effective and efficient working.

Our services

Strategy and change: consulting and collaborating with stakeholders and external technology and service innovators to direct investment and resources.

Information systems: corporate systems, operational systems, Web and databases and their analysis, development and support.

Technology Services: communications (wired and wireless networks, wired and mobile telephony), data centres whether on-premises or cloud (servers, storage, backup), cyber security, collaborative tools, desktop software, end-user computers and other devices, and classroom and personal audio-visual equipment.

Customer services: service management, help and advice, communication and value.

IT Strategy

The university IT Strategy has a vision of “our IT will enable us to move from the constraints of the physical world to the freedom of the virtual”.

Our IT and services will be relevant to our university mission and to our stakeholders, they will be progressive and encourage innovation. We will enable on and off-campus learning and engagement by the development of mobile and collaborative solutions in devices, processes and systems. Our IT will enable increased university and individual effectiveness and efficiency and university sustainability.

IT change is delivered and measured by translating our aims into IT-focused workstreams, describing different technology themes and process enablers:-

IT Services staff are based at our campuses in Carlisle, Ambleside and Lancaster, where the Director of IT Services and IT Services’ Management Team are located.  We also support our London campus remotely and via a third party provider.

The Information Security Policy establishes clearly the university’s policies regarding acceptable and responsible use of the university’s IT systems.
